Alma Mater First and Theta Chi for Alma Mater.

First Annual Theta Chi Golf Scramble

August 19th, 2000 will go down as one of the greatest brotherhood events that I have witnessed in the existence of the Eta Mu Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity. You might ask, "What happened that day?" It was the First Annual Theta Chi Golf Outing held at Sycamore Springs Golf Course just south of Findlay. There were 45 participants, among which 28 were alumni, 1 wife, 2 blood brothers, and 14 other friends. The scholarship foundation has raised $1750 between June and August from donations, hole sponsors, and the tournament participation. Thank you to all of the participants and also to the many people who sponsored holes. We had 19 brothers who sponsored part or all of a hole for this event.

Participants and friends were treated to 18 holes of golf with a cart, snacks, complimentary beverages, balls, and tees. There was a steak dinner with corn on the cob, pasta salad, potato chips, and watermelon that followed the golf where awards were given out. Out of the 11 teams and 45 participants, 31 people won money, merchandise, or other door prizes.

The scholarship foundation has begun so well, that we have decided to offer our first two scholarships in the Spring of '01& Fall '01 in the amount of $250 to deserving undergraduate brothers each semester. As the tournament and the foundation grow, it will be easy to see the potential to give scholarships based on our return from investing the money alone. The tournament will eventually act as part of the foundation vs. the sole supporter of this fund. This will enable the golf event to broaden to other locations and include other family events in the future.

There are currently 10 shareholders of this foundation ($50 minimum donation) that decide how the funds shall be used. Also, these people will decide and vote on the scholarship applications that are received each semester by undergraduate brother's applications. If you would like to make donations to this fund or if you have ideas for the foundation to consider, please contact Lou Kuhnle @ 937-644-9023 or by email at Louis.Kuhnle@sea.siemens.com or by mail to 205 W.7th St., Marysville, Ohio 43040.

Thanks again to all participants, donors, and sponsors!

Lou Kuhnle

Findlay Weather

September 6th - partly cloudy with a high of 83.

Wilderness Weekend 2000

What a weekend! The weather was just perfect to be on Middle Bass Island on July 21-23! It was sad to see that Lonz Winery was not open but a good time was had by all. Everyone was enjoying themselves on the island all weekend long. People were playing cards, using wave runners, drinking or just getting naked! RIGHT EDDIE! Some of us even ventured over to Put-In-Bay! Christmas in July! What a party! Hope to see you there in 2001!

Business Opportunity

During an alumni meeting held earlier this summer, fundraising was discussed. One of our more interesting Alumni came up with an ingenious idea for having the actives contribute to their future. Our future, "Fred & Art's Jerky Beef". There weren't many actives present to give their suggestions, so we ran with the great idea. Hell, we can afford a dehydrator for the actives to perfect their craft with. We'll even buy them big buttons with the jerky's price on it, and make them wear fluorescent vests, and nylon hats. We'll put Fred & Art's Jerks on the back for recognition. We even debated dressing them up
in placards. Excellent salesmen they would become! We came up with all sorts of flavors such as turkey jerky and possum jerky. Picture it now, actives in uniforms patrolling the crowd at the homecoming football game yelling, "GET YOUR JERKY HERE!" Whose fabulous idea was this (see page 3)?

Formal 2001

We have no updates on formal since the July issue of Eta Mu Alumnews. The tentative date is still set for April 21st, 2001. Brian Treece is heading up the effort to nail down the details by the actives. In the last issue, Brian requested pictures for a slide show that he is trying to put together. He hasn't gotten any responses as of yet. We don't want to hear anybody complain that they were left out of the slide show. So if you would like to submit any pictures, you can send them to Brian at:

Brian Treece
c/o The University of Findlay
1000 N. Main St.
Findlay, OH 45840

Brian will return all pictures to their rightful owners at formal. More information about this event will follow in upcoming editions of the Eta Mu Alumnews.

Involvement

What is involvement? How can it help you? How can it help us? My name is Mike Sanwald and this is my article to stimulate interest in writing for the Alumni Newsletter. If you don't write articles for us to read, you will be forced to listen to crappy babble and stories about Dave's sex life (ok, once we find some). If we want to stay close as a group and let people know what we are up to, then write something - ANYTHING! Send me stuff to print in the next edition. Stories about your vacation, the last time you hung out with a brother (Like how Dave and I hang out at the end of each month. He is in Sacramento, CA and I am in Columbus, OH, but when I have extra cell phone minutes I go to the bar with him. Actually, I go to the bar and order 2 drinks and the bartender usually thinks I am crazy {but what do women know} and I go to the corner and talk on the cell phone with him while we enjoy our drinks). How do you spend time with the brothers? Write something about the brother that you haven't seen in a long time. Tell us stories that you feel that we should remember. Tell us about the funny things that happened to you guys as undergrads (make us guess who you are and when it happened!), missing brother articles, random sighting stories, or encounters of the third kind. Let us hear the stories of drinking beers on the porch in your boxers. Tell us about the asinine and idiotic things that we all did which made us who we are. Hell, lets embarrass some people! All that I am asking is that brothers contribute something to the promotion of OX throughout our alumni group. Tell us what you want to see at the house, tell us what you want to see at Findlay, tell us what you need to get you to return to the house! If you tell us, we can read it, we can try to do it! Involvement is the secret to any organization, and in trying to cooperate with the actives to revive this chapter - LETS ALL GET INVOLVED! Send email to davecantu@quotientsystems.com.

Walker Watch

Have you seen this man? His name is Matt Walker. He was a member of the Fall 1993 pledge class (One of the best pledge classes of all times). He hasn't been seen since the mid 90's. Even when Mr. Walker was still attending the good old U of F, sightings were few and far between. That's how the term 'Walker Watch' first came about. The active brothers kept a count of how many times Mr. Walker would show up at the house during his pledging semester. It was even rumored that if he ever saw his shadow, it would mean another poor freshman would make the mistake of pledging Alpha Sig instead of Theta Chi. It is believed in some corners of the Eta Mu community, that Mr. Eric Harsey might know a little bit more about Mr. Walker's were-abouts then he is letting on. It is known fact that Mr. Walker and Mr. Harsey shared and extra terrestrial experience. The details are sketchy, but I believe that it had something to do with Bowling Green and a bottle of Wild Turkey. Who can really say though? Those who knew Mr. Walker can tell you that he was a very strange person at times. Maybe, the extra terrestrial experience that Mr. Walker and Mr. Harsey shared was really a failed attempt by Mr. Walker and his "associates" to abduct Mr. Harsey. Maybe, the Wild Turkey that Mr. Harsey consumed earlier that evening disqualified him for abduction due to contamination. Maybe the reason that nobody has seen or heard from Mr. Walker is that he has returned with his "associates" to their true place of origin. Who can really say? The answers are out there.

Mr. Tom Schaefer is the brains behind the 'Fred and Art's Jerky Beef' idea!
