Board of Directors

Election Requirements and Guidelines

Any brother who is an alumni brother of the Eta Mu Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity in “good standing” is eligible for nomination to the board of directors.

“Good Standing” is defined as a nationally recognized brother who is not in debt to the active chapter.

“Alumni” is defined as a nationally recognized brother who is a member of the Eta Mu chapter and is not a current, fulltime undergraduate student at any school.

A brother who remains a fulltime undergraduate student at any university, whether active in the chapter or not, is not eligible for nomination.

Can Be Nominated

Example 1: A brother completes all pledging requirements, becomes a nationally recognized brother and leaves school the next semester. As long as he leaves in “good standing”, he may be nominated.

Example 2: A brother is enrolled in a graduate studies program but is not a dues paying member of the active chapter.

Example 3: A brother is an alumni who transferred from State University and became a dues paying member of the Eta Mu Chapter for at least one undergraduate semester.

Example 4: A brother is nationally initiated as an honorary member of the Eta Mu Chapter.

Cannot Be Nominated

Example 1: A brother decides he cannot afford dues this semester, but remains a full time University of Findlay student.

Example 2: A brother transfers to State College University and is enrolled as a full time student working on an undergraduate degree.

It is recommended that you nominate yourself if you are interested in being a board member. Campaigning is strongly encouraged. Please call other alumni to make them aware of your intentions and request their support.

Nomination requests will be mailed out in the late summer with enough time to complete the entire election process by homecoming each year.

The nominations that are returned by the post marked due date will be counted and ranked by total number of nominations received.

To appear on the final ballot, a brother must:

*           Receive at least 2 nominations

*           Be one of the top ten brothers nominated

*           Accept the nomination

Acceptance will be assumed if a brother nominated himself. If all

reasonable attempts to contact a brother for acceptance of the

nomination have failed, they will be left off the ballot.

The maximum total persons on the final ballot will be 10. There is no minimum. If there is a tie for the top ten ballot spots or on the final ballot results, a coin flip will used to break the tie. The acting election committee chairman will flip the coin. If he is involved in the tie, he will appoint a person to flip the coin. The people who are tied will be made aware of the tiebreaker beforehand. If more than two people are tied, lots will be drawn from a hat to determine the winner.

If less than three brothers are nominated, a final ballot would not be

needed and those nominated would be awarded board seats.

The current board will appoint a member for the any open seats as needed. Appointments by the board will serve a term of one year only. Appointed seats will then be open and filled on the next election.
